Board of Directors

The John C. Fremont Healthcare District is a political subdivsion of the State of California, created in 1947 under the provisions of California Local Hospital District Law.

The District is governed by a publicly elected five member board of directors.

The Board of Directors and the District CEO:


Samuel M. (Mike) McCreary, Ph.D., Board Chair, was elected to the Board and began his tenure December 2008. Dr. McCreary is also chairman of the statewide ACHD (Association of California Healthcare Districts), which advocates for the interests of all districts, educates trustees and works to improve both leadership and governance in districts.
     Dr. McCreary has an extensive background in public administration, and careers in both the public and private sectors. He has a Masters Degree in Public Administration with a concentration in healthcare administration and a Ph.D. in public administration and policy, and his undergraduate degree was in Business Administration.
     Through the years his careers were, a real estate agent in Berkeley, Oakland, and Pleasanton, California; budget officer for Highland Hospital in Oakland, California; primary medical care contracts manager for Alameda County; Director of Operations for Ambulatory Care Services in Alameda County; Deputy Director of the Institute for Policy Outreach at Virginia Tech University; healthcare consultant; university instructor at Virginia Tech and faculty member at Florida State University in the Askew School of Government.

Suzette Prue, Secretary-Treasurer, has served on the board since being appointed in late 1998.
     She majored in Business Administration at the University of Wisconsin and was a fellow at the Center for Creative Leadership.
     She has worked most of her life in financial and human resource leadership positions with both for-profit and non-profit companies.
     Before becoming a member of the Board of Directors, Ms. Prue served for many years on the board of directors of the John C. Fremont Hospital Foundation and worked tirelessly to organize fundraising activities for the hospital.
     Ms. Prue led efforts for a sales tax measure to support hospital operations and maintain the presence of fully integrated healthcare in Mariposa County.
     Ms. Prue advocates for quality care and fiscal responsibility while lobbying on behalf of the healthcare district at the state level.

Candy O'Donel-Browne, has been on the Hospital Board of Directors since 2003.
     Mrs. O'Donel-Browne acquired a BA in Psychology from Fordham University.
     She owned KOA Yosemite/Mariposa Campground and RV Park in Midpines. After she sold it, she became the Executive Director of the Economic Development Corporation of Mariposa County. She is now retired.
     She is involved with a number of other community boards and committees, including Yosemite Gateway Partners, Mountain Crisis Services, the Mariposa County Arts Council, the Economic Development Corporation, YARTS, and the Midpines Planning Advisory Committee.

Linda Pribyl, RN, MSN, was elected to the Board in the November 2014 General Election and began her four year term on December 1, 2014.
     Mrs. Pribyl is a registered nurse with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing from Loma Linda University and a Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix.
     Her healthcare career spans over 35 years, providing a breadth of experience in patient care, clinical research, diabetes clinical specialization, patient and staff education, nursing student instruction, public health nursing, case management, and hospital management ranging from unit manager to senior vice president. Her management responsibilities included hospital renovations, capital campaigns, new program development including feasibility studies and budget development, start-up of Medicare-certified home health agency achieving 4 cycles of Joint Commission accreditation including commendation, and management of home health, hospice and private duty services.
     She has served on a variety of boards, including Federal Credit Union, Arthritis Foundation, Hospice Hawaii, Hawaii Association for Home Care, and hospital Governing Board. She has been a member of the Mariposa County Commission on Aging since 2001.

Carl E. Wood, R.Ph., elected to the Board in the November 2012 General Election.
      Mr. Wood has been actively involved in the Health Care Industry for over thirty years where he consistently demonstrated his business and medical prowess in building revenues, profits, service offerings and growing startup and subsidiaries of Fortune 500 Corporations; in one instance growing a startup subsidiary from inception to $30 million in two years with margins approaching 43%.
     He earned a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Pharmacy at the University of Washington, where he also published a paper in a noted scientific journal, as an undergraduate, on the unique synthesis of a pharmaceutical molecule. He completed a Practicum in Nuclear Pharmacy at Mercer University, and completed graduate coursework in Finance and Planning, at the University of Michigan and in Business Administration at the University of Santa Clara.
     Earlier in his career, he served as a research Chemist for Shell Development Company and as a Commercial Airline Pilot for Northwest Airlines. Mr. Wood presently practices Community Pharmacy at the Pioneer Market and Pharmacy in Mariposa, California.
